Friendship that goes the distance...

Eleven years ago Glen persuaded me to meet someone new at the church we attended at the time.  He said that he thought we would hit it off.  "I can see you guys being good friends."  I was hesitant just because it gets more difficult to make good friends as an adult.  But heeding his wisdom, I met her.  Little did I know that I would find a best girlfriend (soul sisters is what we like to call it) that day.  We hit it off immediately and haven't looked back since.

You would think me moving 1100 miles away seven years ago would put a damper on our friendship, but it has blossomed deeply because we both go the distance.  We have been there for each other through some difficult and wonderful times.  We've held each other up through miscarriages and deaths of loved ones, and we've been there for each of our children coming into the world.  She has even come to visit just to throw me a "retirement party."  (If you want to know what I retired from, you'll have to ask.)  We've experienced the highs and lows that any friendship goes through, but have always grown together from whatever is going on in our lives.

I believe what makes our friendship so special is that we continue to make the effort to stay connected, but it seems effortless.  We make each other a priority no matter what is going on in life.  She is a testament of Christ's unconditional love.

She is headed this way in a couple of weeks to help me celebrate my birthday and our 11 years of friendship.

Beautiful picture! You're not kidding about going the distance. You could also say she puts her money where her mouth is...the way gas prices are! Happy Early Birthday...I always remember your birthday because it is the same as John-Thomas's...so I've been thinking about your birthday for a couple of weeks as I prepare for his #13!

True friendships are hard to find. It is a blessing when God brings those special people into our lives.

It's wonderful that you have each other in your lives. It is a true reflection of the effort that you have both put into maintaining a bond and connection despite the distance.

O.k, so now you have humbled me beyone belief. I am so touched. You will NEVER know the depth at which you have touched my heart over and over again. I feel like I come up short so many times. Then I send cookies or a cheesecake.... Now you know the truth. Guilt. Sheer guilt. You are the one who turned back around after only like a week to come back for Steven's birth AND paid for your ticked to change to be here for Philip's. I love you so much. So many people act so amazed when they hear we still keep in touch and stay involved in each other's lives. I wonder why. Isn't that how family is? You are family. It breaks my heart that at times you have felt you were a "third wheel" just because the blood related family was around. It crushed me to hear you didn't feel like you could get up close and personal when Craig brought Philip out to meet the family for the first time. I wanted to scream to the world that YOU ARE THAT IMPORTANT TO ME!!!!!!!! GET OUT OF THE WAY AND LET HER BE FIRST IN LINE. SHE IS NOT A SPECTATOR. SHE IS MY SISTER!!!" You breath life back into my heart more often than you think. I wept as I read your post and then, as any true friend would, I peed my pants when I read the last line of the Ode!!! Lets hear it for the Master Bath!!!!! Heres to many more adventures, tears and quiet moments.... followed by, "Lets hit the DQ."
